Artist Statement

Nature’s influence on the human experience is a shifting entity.  I am currently exploring the power struggle between the natural world and the constructed world. Each painting reflects a dynamic relationship without resolution: sometimes rigid structures are disrupted by organic forms; other times the relationship is harmonious.

Each piece carefully balances unity and tension using a system of interlocking, interaction power relations. A hybrid of untamed gesture and mathematical tension captures both the architectonic stasis and the kinetic furor of the moment. As a result, each work sits somewhere along the spectrum from defined to disordered, portraying one instance of the evolving relationship in time. Its transience is the motivation to capture it before it’s gone.
